This section investigates the perception and preferences for government spending relative to GDP.

  • Optimal Budget Consumption

    Keeping in mind that all personal and business spending, state government spending, and local government spending come from the same pool of resources, estimate the fraction (eg. ½ or 50%) of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) – the total annual economic output of the nation – that you feel ought to be consumed by the federal government.

    Estimate the fraction (eg. ½ or 50%) of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) – the total annual economic output of the nation – that is consumed by the federal government.

    • Federal budget as a fraction of GDP:
        19.8%
